Hi, I have a large box which I have always put my spare change into.(AUSTRALIAN 1970>2010) From it I have decided to make up a coin album for the kids. The extra coins that I have left over I plan to take to the bank and cash in. Before I do this are there any special coins I should look out for?? I used your blue sheet guide a little last night and noticed that one or two coins I have are worth more. Plus noticed that nearly every 5 cent piece was worth double(should I hold onto them). Also what is a '78 MULE coin? I have 33 1981 20cent pieces and do not know what a Scalloped edge is? I have a 1971, 1973, 1997 - 50 cent piece Should I hold onto them? Also all those pretty ones 20 and 50 cent pieces which featured different occasions, years and places - are they worth while holding onto??

Coins to look out for include: $1 2000 with Kangaroos on it. $1 2005 with Kangaroos. $1 2000 with a Queens head side that is slightly too small giving it a thicker looking rim. It is called a One Dollar 10 cent mule. 2c from 1967 and 1968. Coins with obvious errors. The commemorative 50c are worth holding onto if they are in superb condition.

Unless they are uncirculated, they would command face value. Scalloped shape is like the Hong Kong $2 coin, but you are referring to the rounded edges, not 90 degrees. The mule 2000 $1 is a bit rare, so keep that at least.
